Hi April,
Most of the Virtual PBX providers now follow what is called "single-leg" billing, and all of the ones we've reviewed definitely do. What this means is that you do not pay for the initial call into the PBX, but only for the minutes that you use after the pbx connects to your extension(phone line). Once a call makes it to your personal attendant and then is transfered to an extension or multiple extensions all minutes used are counted towards your total minutes.

I hope this makes sense.

The one vendor in our list that still utilized what is called 2-leg billing in some circumstances is Freedom Voice. This means you pay for the connection to the PBX itself as well as to connect to your local or 800 number. However they only do this for Canada calls originated in Canada - you can get more info on it in our full Freedom Voice review.

When a call is transferred, do the minutes stop counting against you? Or do the minutes stop counting after the transferred call is completed? Meaning the ending of the whole call conversation? Thanks

Hi Mike,
Yes, each extension can be forwarded to a different phone number, whether it's a standard land line or cell phone or even a combination using the find me/follow me options. In this way you can have employees/staff located anywhere but yet reachable by both you and your customers with one central number. You can also have multiple offices connected via one toll free number as well, with a greeting of "press 1 for Tampa, 2 for St. Petersburg, 3 for Clearwater", which would then forward the call to a local office number based on what the caller selects. As you can see, there are various possibilities.

Both Gotvmail and Phone.com offer unlimited extensions now.

Hope this helps...

My partner and I started a company together and we both work out of our home. We did not want to spend a lot of money on a phone system. We did some research and we signed up for a virtual pbx service online. We configured the system in less then a half hour including getting our greetings recorded. The virtual pbx system helps us sound more professional and streamlined our communications. We have been using iTeleCenter for a few years and we have been very happy with the service.
